According to this myth, Ares, the Greek god of war, came in the form of a wild boar to kill Aphrodite's lover Adonis. As she tried to save Adonis, Aphrodite cut herself on a briar bush. As their blood spilled, it merged on a quartz crystal, coloring the stone pink.
