There are many legends about rose quartz and how it came to be. According to one, Cupid, the Roman god of desire and affection, gave pink quartz to Earth as a gift of love, passion, and happiness for all. Another Greek legend tells a more tragic story. According to this myth, Ares, the Greek god of war, came in the form of a wild boar to kill Aphrodite's lover, Adonis. As she tried to save Adonis, Aphrodite cut herself on a briar bush. As their blood spilled, it mingled on a quartz crystal, coloring the stone pink.
