Malachite has been incorporated into amulets since the times of ancient Egyptians, ancient Greeks and Romans. Malachite amulets were believed to protect against the evil eye. Much later, in the Middle Ages, malachite was worn by children to protect them from black magic and witchcraft. Malachite was thought to have warning abilities, and if danger was near, the gemstone would break into pieces.
