Coral jade is a natural gemstone that forms when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced by agate. Corals are marine animals and it is their skeletons that are fossilized and preserved. Fossil corals form through hardened sediments left by quartz-rich waters. The whole process can take more than 20 million years.
