Citrine is a rare crystal, a known variety of quartz (SiO₂), distinguished by its golden-yellow to orange color. Its color results from the presence of iron impurities, which heating transforms into characteristic hues.
Rarity and geological specifics
Natural citrine is very rare. Most commercially available citrines are actually heat-treated amethyst or smoky quartz, which acquire yellowish tones at high temperatures (300–600 °C).
The main deposits of natural citrine are Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, and the USA. It often occurs in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins, where it crystallizes from silicon dioxide.
Due to its warmth, energetic power, and connection to abundance, citrine is valued in both mineralogy and spiritual practices.
